Mirrors

Hoping to wake up in a new body

A body without stretch marks,

You look in the mirror; eyes sore from yesterday’s tears,
Hoping to wake up in a new body
A body without stretch marks,
Chubby tummy, floppy cheeks & huge thighs
A perfect body that you can flaunt around proudly
A body that will gain you your heart’s desire- love and acceptance
Maybe he would have been showing you off to the world
The one that you love and claims he loves you back
Will not be putting other female with your dream body
On his smartphone for all his friends to see
Maybe you would not be reasoning with your pain
When he pretends not to know you in public
But embraces you with his kisses at night
Maybe you wouldn’t be best friends with your tears
When he openly flirts with other girls while you are there
If only you had a perfect body, maybe you would be happy
Maybe your mind wouldn’t be fogged with unbearable darkness
Of depression and insecurities
If only you knew that God created a masterpiece
And he sees you in a way you can’t imagine
Beauty standards set by the society are failed standards by themselves
Maybe you would love yourself more than you do now.
Maybe you would.
